Router Cutter

Router Cutter work starts with the board, sheet, or composite on the bed and the finish expected off the machine. We specify spindle, vacuum hold-down, cutter geometry, and feed settings around nesting, trimming, grooving, or profiling, so the cell suits production instead of forcing material to suit the machine.

Board, Sheet and Composite Routing

Router Cutter covers CNC routing work where finish, hold-down and tool selection have to match the board, sheet or composite being cut. The machine specification needs to match the actual material and output, not a generic router list.

Melamine, MDF, plywood, ACM, foam board, and selected plastics do not cut the same way, even when sheet size matches. Chip evacuation, cutter compression, spoilboard condition, and vacuum zoning all need checking before feed and speed figures mean anything. Inland dust and coastal humidity also change how cleanly sheets seat on the table and how reliably small parts stay put.

First-off samples matter on a router because edge quality can drift with tool wear long before a cutter fails outright. A short care note for the cell should record bit type, collet size, spindle direction, extraction checks, and the signs that tell the operator to stop before scrap multiplies.

Router Cell Specification Output

Use this Router Cutter page with related notes under Cutters, Applications, and Edgework when the job includes trimming after pressing or a visible finished edge. Before parts leave the table, check cutter projection, spoilboard flatness, and label detail against the dispatch paperwork. Writing in? Give the sheet size you cut in the contact form.

South African Shop Conditions

A router cell in Johannesburg, Durban, or Cape Town may face very different dust load, humidity, transport timing, and available power stability. Existing factories also bring inherited ducting, uneven slabs, older extraction runs, and mixed sheet stock from different suppliers. Those conditions affect cut accuracy, extraction performance, and whether nested parts release cleanly or need tabs and secondary trimming.

Coastal air can swell certain boards and shorten the interval between lubrication and cleaning checks around moving assemblies. On the Highveld, fine dust builds quickly around sensors, guides, extraction hoods, and electrical cabinets, which changes maintenance rhythm. During power interruptions, routers need a clear restart process that confirms zero position, vacuum readiness, and part status before the next sheet is loaded.

Information Needed for Router Jobs

Send sheet dimensions, material type, thickness, required edge finish, and whether parts are nested, profiled, pocketed, or drilled in one cycle. It also helps to note any problems now seen on site, such as breakout on the bottom face, burn marks, poor hold-down, chipped laminate, or small parts shifting near the end of the program.

Record cutter diameter, flute style, spindle speed, feed rate, pass depth, and extraction condition while the job is still on the machine. That information belongs with the project file so procurement, maintenance, and production can verify what was actually run when replacement tooling or further sheets are ordered.
