Night Shift
Night Shift focuses on handover gaps, reduced supervision, and restart errors that tend to appear after the first smooth run.

After-hours cutting cell handover points
Night Shift deals with what changes after day staff leave the floor. It focuses on handover notes, lower supervision, restart checks and the small cutting errors that usually show up once the first easy run is over.
Night Shift is used when the cell runs on after day staff have signed off and the next operator inherits a partly proven setup. It covers blade condition, fence position, stop settings, labels on material stacks, and the restart checks that matter at 22:00 as much as they do at 08:00. In South African plants, load-shedding recoveries and thinner staffing make those notes more important, not less.
Leave one marked reference part with the handover note and note the last accepted cut on paper. That gives the night crew a physical comparison for burrs, breakout, size drift, and edge heat before they commit a full batch. A torch, marker, and dated photo from the first stable run help when the machine is restarted before daybreak.
Night Shift pack contents
The pack centres on restart control rather than broad process theory. It sets out what to inspect after a stoppage, which adjustments are allowed on shift, and which faults must wait for the day team or maintenance. Part IDs, tooling names, and machine references are written exactly as used on site so handover language stays consistent.
Use Night Shift with the linked notes in Cutters, Applications, and Edgework when the after-hours crew must judge cut quality without much supervision.
- Restart checks after stoppages
- Reference part kept at the cell
Conditions that change night output
A night run behaves differently when dispatch deadlines, reduced maintenance cover, and partial crews all meet the same machine. Durban humidity can affect stored board and packaging, while Highveld dust builds up around guides, sensors, and extraction points during a long shift. Night Shift records those operating conditions so the crew checks the likely failure points first.
Restarting after a power interruption needs more than a quick button press. Confirm zero position, test one piece, inspect the edge, and compare it to the accepted sample before the stack goes back under the cutter. Where export packing or early courier collection is involved, mark hold points clearly so a mixed batch does not leave the site by mistake.

Notes to leave for operators
Use Night Shift where after-hours crews need simpler checks, clearer labels and fewer missed setup steps.
Write the handover while the tooling arrangement, material thickness, and accepted finish are still in front of you. Record what changed during the run, what was locked off, and which dimension was most likely to drift after a restart. Keep that note with the job record so the next shift reads one version instead of piecing it together from calls and loose papers.
